I remember a time in my life
when I was running down a tunnel
chased by a wall of flames
I felt them constantly getting closer
Heat bearing down on me
burning me more and more
until finally I gave up
turned around and faced the fire
and let the flames engulf me
But I was not burning anymore
the flames felt like wind
They eventually passed
except for a small flame
that lit my way out of the
tunnel

As my shadow mimics my every move—

I sit in my room staring at my screen,

she moves as I do, yet I feel detached from her.

I feel her distance..

I know at nights she tries to escape me,

furthering herself from my body.

Sometimes I cannot be away from her,

so I sit alone in the darkness to recollect my thoughts.

I try so hard not to offend her,

but it’s hard peeing in the dark,

it’s hard making love,

it’s hard doing many things…without her near.

Robert Frost wrote a poem entitled Dedication that he intended to read at the inauguration of John F. Kennedy in 1961. Frost never read it because the sun’s glare upon the snow blinded him from seeing the text. Instead, the poet recited The Gift Outright from memory. This first version of Dedication was donated to the Library in 1969 by Stewart L. Udall (b.1920 ), Kennedy’s Secretary of the Interior. Udall explained that no one had expected Frost to write a new poem for the inauguration as “he had steadfastly refused to compose commemorative verses during his entire lifetime.”

In this life,I was born.
Born so pure.
Born with no fear.
Born with no hunger.
Born so honest.
Born so modest.
All I wanted was my mom’s hug.
As a plant in a tree’s hug.
Then I grew up.
Days hated me and I hated days.
Life will end up.
Then,people hurt me.
I asked God for revenge.
God applied for me.

Heba Hashem was born in Egypt in 1986. Her full name is Heba Allah Taha Hashem.
She received her education in a nuns’ school then in governmental schools in the other education levels. In 2004,Heba joined the Faculty of Arts at the department of English in a governmental university. In 2008,Heba graduated from this faculty and Received her certificate of English Arts. Now Heba works in a company as a translator.
